Maximize the Life and Fragrance of Your ResilScents Candle
A well-cared-for candle is a long-lasting candle. At ResilScents, we want you to enjoy every moment of your candle experience, so we’ve compiled these essential care tips to ensure your candle burns beautifully and safely.
Before You Burn
Preparation is key to getting the most out of your candle:
- Trim the Wick: Always trim the wick to 1/4 inch before lighting your candle. This prevents excessive smoke, reduces soot, and ensures an even flame. A proper wick length also helps your candle last longer.
- Choose the Right Space: Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, vents, and flammable items.
During the Burn
To achieve an even burn and a clean melt pool:
- Let It Pool: On the first burn, allow the melted wax to reach the edges of the container. This step is crucial for preventing tunneling, which can waste wax and shorten your candle's lifespan.
- Follow the 4-Hour Rule: Avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Over-burning can lead to overheating, uneven wax, and wick issues.
- Burn Safely: Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
After the Burn
Care doesn’t stop when the flame goes out:
- Extinguish Properly: Use a snuffer or gently blow out the flame to avoid creating smoke or splashing wax.
- Clean the Wick: Remove any wick debris before relighting your candle to maintain a clean burn.
- Reuse and Recycle: Once your candle has burned down, clean the jar and repurpose it as a planter, pen holder, or decor piece.
Troubleshooting Common Candle Issues
- Tunneling: If tunneling occurs, use aluminum foil to wrap the top of the candle, leaving a small opening for the flame. Let it burn until the wax evens out.
- Mushrooming Wick: Trim the wick to remove the carbon buildup, ensuring a cleaner and brighter flame.
- Uneven Flame: Adjust the environment—candles burn best in draft-free spaces.
